‘…a thing of beauty’

National Heritage Lottery Funding

The past 6 months have been very intense creating, costing, designing and debating the ideas and concepts that have been put forward to the NLHF for funding of the National Slate Museum redevelopment.

We’ve been aided by a brilliant team at Amgueddfa Cymru (Museum of Wales) and together with the knowledgeable staff at the Museum itself have developed 3 detailed documents that showcase how the new ideas are taking shape.

The Interpretation Plan covers every internal room, of which there are close to 30 different spaces ranging from authentic Victorian interiors in the Foundry and Blacksmiths forges, to new purpose built temporary and permanent exhibition spaces. A Wayfinding and Signage plan details concepts for both functional and interpretational signage across the site, and has been a challenge to get right. Lastly an Executive Summary and Project Budget have detailed exactly how we intend to create these ideas and remake the Museum fit for the 21st century.

So far the NLHF have seen the work that has gone into the submission documents and commented that it was ‘a thing of beauty’.

We couldn’t ask for a more positive reaction.
