CAERNARFON CASTLE //
BUILT BY HAND
Depending on which side of the Welsh border you were born, Caernarfon Castle is either a glorious medieval fortress palace, or a site of conquest and indignation that time can’t heal.
The Kings Gate project, aimed to enhance the already impressive visitor offer at Caernarfon, by adding panoramic viewing decks, a new café, a glass lift and 12 individually created sculptures. Each sculpture showcasing the work of the medieval craftsmen who built this imposing castle.
I worked with blacksmiths, carpenters, stonemasons, embroiderers, stained glass makers, sculptors and even a bronze foundry to turn our concepts of portraying medieval making skills into modern interpretations.
