The Main Feature

For the first time in over 60 years, Porth Mawr has a film projector ready for Showtime!

Known officially as the ‘Guildhall’, but more colloquially as ‘The Bug House’, not that many people in Caernarfon remember the cinema, but it showed all the ‘Classic films, B-movies and Pathé Newsreels’. It ran from the turn of the Century until its closure in 1964, when the building was partially demolished.

With the expertise of Rubin Eynon, the brightly painted red projector has been reimagined as a backlit sculpture - matching the staircase balustrade which runs up to the stunning public roof deck of Porth Mawr.
